Dear Parents,

We would like to extend our warm greetings to you all when the weather is gradually becoming cooler. We would also like to share some of the news from the school.

Some past, future and ongoing Events:

The Science Fair

Sir John Wilson School hosted its 11th Science Fair on 20th October 2016. Students & Teachers from the Senior Section had worked tirelessly to make this event a success. There was an extraordinary display of a total of 74 projects, all made by the students themselves. The projects comprised of various models and charts and embodied innovative ideas such as an energy efficient village, a generator pollution circuit, Swagway-a prototype of the segway, water level indicator, solar light, eco friendly air conditioner, etc.

We were honoured to have 2 Principals from 2 renowned schools among us. Ms. Anjum Hussain, Principal of “Tiny Tots” and “Summer Field School” and Ms. Lori Imdad Walsh, Principal of American Standard International School who graced the programme as Chief Guest and Special Guest respectively. Students were very excited and keen to showcase their ingenious ideas and the guests, judges and parents were very impressed by the remarkable displays put up by the young potential scientists.

We would like to thank all our parents of Senior section for helping and encouraging the students to complete their projects. Congratulations to the winners of the Science Fair 2016-17! Your hard work has paid off.

SENIOR TALENT SHOW

29th October 2016 was a colourful and musical day for Sir John Wilson students as they celebrated their first Talent Show at their new Satarkul Campus. The talent show is a great opportunity for children to showcase their talents in front of an audience. The show was judged by the Bangladeshi actress & singer Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Vocalist of the 90’s rock band Paper Rhyme Mr Ahmed Saad and SJWS teachers Mustafa Faroque Wahid and Ms. Yasmin Ahmed. The first 2 judges are our parents as well.

This year, the list of performances surpassed every other year as there was a total of 23 items this time, each being just as extraordinary as the other; starting with the breathtakingly soothing musical performances to the charismatic dances done by this year’s contestants. Some of the notable performances this year included an original song composed and performed by two 10th graders, a solo Break-dance done by a 6th grader as well as several accurate renditions of popular songs such as “All I Want” by Kodaline and “Pori” by Bappa Majumder. A student also performed a very impressive Beat-boxing act that was liked by all. The hosts of the show, Akhlaq Siddiqi and Faiza Chowdhury from Class-12 ensured there was not a single dull moment as the day went on.

The show ended with a finale of a few impromptu songs performed by the 12 graders for whom this would be the Final Talent Show. All in all, the Talent Show this year was a successful one, and students, teachers and invited parents of the performers had a good time. Next year we look forward to do this event in our own auditorium.

Suggestions for activity for students:

The sixth edition of Dhaka Literary Festival will be held on 17-19 November 2016 at Bangla Academy which brings together great minds in literature, arts, science and culture. It is considered one of the biggest literary festivals in South Asia. We certainly recommend you to take your children to the festival to take the opportunity to meet great writers, come across book launching programs, and experience a wide range of books written by authors from all over the world.

Please also see 2 important notices on Awareness about Use of Language” and “Health Issues-HFMD” that we have posted on the website for your information. Another very important notice “Term Ending Events” for the Senior section (classes 5 to 10) has been posted under the secured zone as well.

Thank you very much for supporting us. I look forward to writing to you again to share the various activities of the school.

Best Regards,
