Sir John Wilson School Stars
On March 28th 2015, The Daily Star had organized its 16th Annual Award Ceremony at the Shaheed Shurawardy National Indoor Stadium, Dhaka to acknowledge the accomplishment of the young O and A Level High Achievers of Bangladesh. The Award Ceremony was aptly titled as ‘Saluting the Nation Builders of Tomorrow’. A total of 1760 students (both Edexcel and Cambridge) across the nation were awarded on that day. The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of Daily Star.
The Education Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, was present as the Chief Guest. He addressed the highest achievers as the leaders of the world and stressed on the importance of them becoming individuals exuding morality, honesty and love for their country.
Special guest Shakib Al Hasan, the renowned cricket player of Bangladesh was the key highlight of the event, and a stunning surprise for the young awardees. He spoke about the need to improve in all fields of education and shared some of his school memories with the students.
Robert Winning Gibson, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh was the Special Guest, and he ensured parents that the upcoming sessions of Examinations in summer would take place in Bangladesh.
Other distinguished guests who spoke at the event were Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman; Managing Director and CEO of Brac Bank Ltd, Mr. Simon Young; Regional Director of Pearson Edexcel Asia, Prof Sadequr Rahman; Monash University Malaysia, Prof M Omar Rahman; Vice-Chancellor Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), and Mr. Sandeep Gupta, General Manager of Microsoft Mobile Devices and Services,
180 students were given special recognition at the ceremony: 52 for achieving highest scores in the world in various subjects and 128 students for outperforming the rest in Bangladesh.
Sir John Wilson School, being a regular partaker at the award ceremony, had 21 students (with a score of minimum of 6 A grades in O level or 3 A grades in A level) invited at the ceremony to be awarded for their extraordinary achievements in their O and A level examinations.
