Omer Farook – the man, the mind, the manners, and the music

An obituary

Our entire Sir John Wilson School family deeply mourns the passing of our most beloved and veteran music teacher Mr. Omer Farook. He had been suffering from cancer lately and his soul departed us on 7th April 2022.

As a retired Director of Bangladesh Shilpa Kala Academy, he joined SJWS in 2002, and devoted a long service career with us till 2016. Within this span of time, he touched the souls of the hundreds of his students, making them grateful towards music, manners and mindfulness. He had also been a great lyricist, composer, director and had written numerous books on music which are currently being used as core texts in several music colleges and universities in our country.

As a true teacher, his company could be compared as the touchstone, which changed the lives of the curious minds and made them explore the true essence of completeness through his music lessons. The SJWS family is forever indebted to his contribution to music and uplifting the spirits of the youngsters in this arena. Not only his students, he had been a source of intellectual inspiration to many of his co-teachers and colleagues at SJWS.

Mr. Omer Farook had been a legend in our country and a highly respected personality in SJWS. Despite his departure from our close contacts, his memories with us will forever be fresh and fragrant in all our minds. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Ameen.
