Sir John Wilson
His life and humanitarian work continue to inspire the values, purpose, and educational mission of Sir John Wilson School.
A life of courage, education, and service became the inspiration for Sir John Wilson School.
In October 1931, a twelve-year-old boy, John Wilson, met with an accident in his school science lab. His ensuing blindness, however, was never regarded as a handicap by the emerging teenager.
He graduated from Oxford University in 1941 with a degree in Law. As the Second World War came to an end, there was a great need for people to work with disabled soldiers returning from the front.
John Wilson began what became his life’s work: improving life for people who are blind and helping prevent blindness.
