Sir John Wilson School Science Fair 2019-2020

The 15th Annual Science Fair of Sir John Wilson School was held at the main campus on Thursday, 17 October 2019.To raise awareness about the disastrous effects of climate change and other environmental threats, the theme this year was: “Save the Earth to Save Ourselves”. Students from fifth to ninth grade showcased a total of 76 projects during the science fair.

Most projects focused on finding solutions to various local as well as global environmental crises. A lot of emphasis went into designing urban solutions to enhance the living conditions in Dhaka city. These young scientific minds repeatedly resorted to solar, wind, water and other renewable energy solutions to ensure more sustainable development to save mother earth.

The day long Science Fair was inaugurated in the morning by Ms. Sabrina Shaheed, Principal of the school. Mrs Nasreen Subhan, Chairperson of the School Managing Committee expressed her deep appreciation after seeing the brilliant Science projects. The Prize Distribution Ceremony started with the opening speech by Dr. Farhana Zaman, Vice Principal of Senior section. Mr. Sebastian Pearce, Director of Examinations, British Council, Dhaka, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and his presence and words of encouragement motivated the enthusiastic little scientists immensely. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Rosalind K. Dias, Head of the Department of Science.

The winning projects from grades five to nine respectively were: Advanced Dhaka City-Transformed into a Smart City for Future; Green-Plastics; Hyper Loop: a Fast Future; Saving the World from Plastics and Electrolysis-Hydrogen-fuel and its Practical Usage.

Science fair creates a platform for young learners to explore knowledge beyond their textbooks while awareness regarding environmental hazards motivate them to strive towards implementing sustainable development. With whole hearted effort from the students as well as the Science teachers, this year’s science fair was a huge success.
