Dear Parents of class 9-12,
Kindly be informed about the UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) Exchange program for 16 years and older students. It will be a 4-week long program from July 10- August 4, 2023. The cost of the trip excluding airfare is 3300 USD. The last date for receiving applications is 28 February 2023. The participation in the program will be confirmed after an interview on a first come, first serve basis. Mr. Samio Ahmed Bhuiyan of GEIST International Foundation is the point of contact for the program and can answer any questions that prospective students and/or parents may have on 8801708759710.
Kindly find the attached flyer with all the information. Students who are U.S. citizens do not need the U.S. visa. However, students having Green Card/ 5 years multiple visa should obtain J-1 visa for going on this program after completing the formalities of the application process.
General Schedule of the summer program:
Monday - Friday
- 9 - 11:30 am - Intensive English/College Preparatory English
- Lunch on campus
- 1-4 pm- Seminar courses and activities ranging from: leadership, intercultural communication, service/experiential learning, introductions to U.S. university life and the development of other soft skills.
Saturday - Guided excursions to:
- NASA Goddard Center
- Baltimore's Inner Harbour and National Aquarium
- Washington, D.C.
- Baltimore Orioles Baseball Game
Sundays - Free days for social activities with other participants on UMBC's campus
In terms of safety, UMBC is located in a safe, suburban area and is secured 24/7 by UMBC police. UMBC has numerous safety resources for students such as free safety escorts to any location on campus and access to residence halls are limited only to residents and 24/7 security call boxes throughout campus. Students will be living on campus in a residence hall only with students of the program and will be accompanied by a live-in chaperone from the GEIST International Foundation.
