WINNER OF GLOBAL ROBOTIC CHALLENGE COMPETITION

Team Bangladesh has become the champion among 174 countries in a robotics competition titled 'First Global Challenge'. Razeen Ali, student of class 12 in Sir John Wilson School, was a part of the winning team.

With an aim to make students keen in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, the competition is organised every year so that ninth to twelfth grade students can take part in an international robotics competition. Three such Olympics have been organised since 2016 and Razeen Ali has participated in all three competitions as an integral part of Team Bangladesh. Due to the global pandemic, this year, the competition was held virtually over a period of three months- with a challenge given to the teams every week. Team Bangladesh became the champion with 117 points, while Chile came second and Algeria came third.

There were total 10 students in Team Bangladesh from different schoolsSJWS has always encouraged students to take part in extracurricular activities and robotics has been part of our After School Club for many years. We are extremely proud of the achievement of a Wilsoner and we whole heartedly congratulate Razeen Ali, his parents and mentors.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMS BY SJWS STUDENTS AND

DONATION TO BANGLADESH CANCER AID TRUST (BANCAT)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The present students of Class 11 have been working on creating Breast cancer awareness amongst the students at school for the past 2 years. This year, due to the unprecedented circumstances, the students came up with a brilliant new alternative of creating awareness and working for the cause through social media. This October, through @_pinktober_ (  https://www.instagram.com/_pinktober_/?hl=en ), the students spread awareness, not only within the school, but to a much larger audience.

The goal of the students was to break the taboo of discussing breast cancer. Treating cancer is very expensive and students wanted to monetarily help cancer victims from the underprivileged sector of the community. The @_pinktober_ campaign was an accumulation of interactive activities for participants to engage in, educational posts on the disease, and talking about the stigma surrounding it.

There were 4 interactive activities for each week of October, starting with the Ink in Pink session, where the followers were asked to express through any form of art what women empowerment and Breast Cancer awareness meant to them. The second Activity was Walkathon. Here again, based on their creative ideas, students devised an innovative idea of followers walking 10,000 steps for cancer over the course of a week inside their houses, parks, rooftops, etc. The third activity was Discuss and Dine. Participants were encouraged to prepare or order in a nice meal for their families, and the conversation over the meal would be about Breast Cancer and why it is considered a taboo. Questions were posted on the page as a guide and conversation starter. The last and final activity was a homage to last year's event at school, a Bake Sale. Students partnered up with an online bakery to create delectable treats for sale, and the money from the sales will be going to Bangladesh Cancer Aid Trust (BANCAT).

The school has always tried to instill in the students the importance of helping others.

Shamisa Ahmed from class 11, a firm believer in the saying, “If there is a will, there is a way," has led her team consisting of Shaneen Ahmed, Dilshana Naureen, Fariba Arzeen, Mahera Aiman Noor and Akshita Sohel, students of class 11, to achieve admirable results with her campaign. We are extremely proud of her and her team!
